What is now the George Vaults in Rochester (35 High Street) has a fine vaulted crypt beneath which dates from the 14th century. It would once have been under a fine dwelling, or even religious house. Over the years it has been used a skittle alley and beer-cellar but is now part of the dining area.
Other crypts survive in the area, including those beneath the Crown Inn, the Old Vicarage and the Bishop’s Palace.
